New Independent Money Management Firm Opens in Chapel
Hill
September 2007
A new independent money management firm has opened
in Chapel Hill. Hamilton Point Investment Advisors,
LLC principals Andrew C. Burns and Richard S. Woods
are veteran financial professionals and provide client
services out of the firm's headquarters in Chapel Hill,
N.C. as well as an office in Clinton, N.Y.
Burns, the firm's Chief Investment Officer, has been
managing investment portfolios for high net worth individuals
and not-for-profits organizations for over fifteen
years. After graduating from Hamilton College, he worked
for Irving Trust Company in New York and was later
with Wachovia in Winston-Salem and Wheat First Securities
in Richmond, Virginia, where he built a loyal client
base, particularly among owners of small to medium
size privately held businesses.
Woods is a Charlotte native and a graduate of Duke's
Fuqua School of Business and its Trinity School of
Arts and Sciences. He has worked in investment banking
in North Carolina and Georgia. He recently served as
Senior Manager of Finance and Deal Analysis for CNN
Worldwide in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to that, he worked
as an Associate with Chatham Capital, a mezzanine investment
firm and with Soles Brower Smith & Co. in Greensboro,
N.C.
Hamilton Point conducts original, in-house research
into economic trends and the financial statements of
public companies. It invests in individually purchased
bonds, stocks and funds for investors with a minimum
targeted investment portfolio of $1 million who want
to personally know and have regular interaction with
their money manager. Hamilton Point's diversified strategy
employs equity investment indicators such as strong
management, balance sheet /debt capacity and a favorable
comparison of public valuation with Hamilton Point's
proprietary analysis of a “going private” value.
“Our firm's trademark is quality combined with
diversification,” explains CEO Burns. “Our
portfolio management experience and our combined backgrounds
in investment banking prove invaluable when determining
which companies our clients should invest in. And,
as an independent investment boutique, we are able
to screen for only the highest quality holdings on
behalf of clients, without any conflicts of interest.
Our strategy is particularly attractive to CEO’s
and owners of private businesses who are sensitive
to how important discipline is when it comes to valuing
equities.”
